What a rollercoaster. The forecast for the Monday before Thanksgiving ended up being in the high 20s and windy. We butcher outdoors and the process requires repeatedly dipping our hands in water. Brian made the call to butcher Turkeys the Friday before Thanksgiving. This explains why they were dated a few days before Tuesday's pick-up date. We made sure to keep all Turkeys in an ice water slurry at 32 degrees for those extra days ensuring a fresh turkey. While no one mentioned the earlier than planned date we are such farm nerds that we thought you might like to see the scientific paper we based our decision on to ensure our comfort and the health of our customers.
Certified Naturally Grown in the Headlines
As CNG farmers we are excited that More folks are finding out about the Certified Naturally Grown Label. Here is an article from Mother Earth News.
Our lovely hens are doing a great job of keeping us supplied with plenty of eggs (finally!) The Mountain Peoples Coop in Morgantown has doubled their order because folks just can’t get enough of them. CSAers in Oakland, don’t forget your eggs on Monday :) (If I can get out of all this snow!)
Terra Cafe Awesomeness
The Terra Cafe just held a special local food night featuring local brews from Big Timber Tap, Possum Tail Farm meats and Round Right Farm veggies. Here are some photos. Chef Lauren has some more special event nights planned, we’ll keep you posted.
Just for Fun
This month you get a silly chicken photo.
Even though we are filling the feed trough with feed, that goofball wants to get her feed straight from the bucket.
Have a Snuggly January!
